Midtown Emerging Artists Series

Friday Nights starting June 24th and continuing through August 26th

Location: Base of Captrust Tower, North Hills Expansion

Local bands/acoustic acts will play on stage in the pocket park at the base of the Captrust Tower from 5:30-7:30pm on Fridays in June, July, and August. These local musicians add ambiance and a sense of community to the North Hills expansion and create a place to relax and mingle on Friday evenings. In 2008 and 2009, attendees gathered to listen to family friendly and familiar original songs.

Amazing Athletes at NH Kids

Amazing Athletes is coming to North Hills Kids! Mark your calendars now for this complimentary activity for your kiddos! They will be visiting NH Kids on May 25th, June 15th, July 13th, and August 17th from 9am – 10am in the Commons at North Hills.

What is it?

Amazing Athletes is a sports-based fitness program specifically designed for all children (18 months to 6 years old). The primary age group is 2 ½ to 6 years old. The program is very fun, dynamic and unique!

What will your child learn?

Amazing Athletes coach the basic fundamentals of nine major ball sports (football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball, hockey, lacrosse, tennis and golf). They also teach key developmental skills such as hand-eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills, cardio, muscle tone and speed and agility. They have a specific curriculum that they work off of, so it’s not simply throwing a ball around for 35 minutes – there are specific goals they’re trying to reach with the kids. Amazing Athletes is very aware of the developmental skills children need to be learning at this age, and will work those milestones into the curriculum.

Why should you sign your child up?

This class helps build confidence, improves coordination, promotes teamwork and sportsmanship and helps enforce a healthy and active lifestyle. With the rapid growth of childhood obesity, this is a great way for parents to get their children active at an early age. There are numerous studies showing the direct correlation between children who are active at a young age and their overall health when they are adults. In addition, there is no other class offered in the RTP area that allows your child to learn nine sports all in one class!

How long are the classes?

The classes are 35-40 minutes each and are held once a week. The program is year-round. We have some children start the class when they’re 18 months old and stay in until they’re 6. There are four classes each month.

Antique British Car Show

Location: Six Forks Rd. front parking lot

A wonderful opportunity to see over 100 cars representing more than 40 years of British motoring history. Cars will be parked in the lot along Six Forks Road in front of Coquette and Cameron Clothing. Car club enthusiasts will venture from all over the Triangle and beyond to enjoy the cars, live music, stay in the Renaissance Hotel, and enjoy the wide variety of restaurants and shops that North Hills has to offer. Now in its third year at North Hills, the car club has experienced great success by moving and maintaining this event at North Hills. Over 115 antique cars were on display in 2010, and North Hills patrons enjoyed a little piece of history parked right in their midst.

Calling all Artists! North Hills is now accepting applications for the 2011 Midtown Plein Air Art Competition! Artists of all ages will are invited to set up around the property to paint scenes at North Hills from that will be judged and auctioned during the June 11th festival. American Diabetes Association, Step Out: Walk to STOP Diabetes

Location: Bruegger’s Parking Lot, North Hills Expansion

Think Pink will be held at North Hills for its’ fifth consecutive year. This is an event produced by the American Cancer Society. The 2010 walk was the most successful one in the region, with more than 4,800 people participating. The walk will begin on the expansion side of North Hills in the parking lot closest to Bruegger’s and Park and Market Apartments. The walk will take participants on a 5K through the surrounding neighborhoods, and will end up back in the lot where they began.

North Hills will celebrate Independence Day with a Children’s Bike Parade, Watermelon eating contest, apple pie baking contest, carnival games, beverage tents, street performers, and patriotic music. It’s a great way to celebrate the 4^th of July with family, friends, and neighbors.

We are entering the third year of this joint promotion between North Hills and Loafers Beach Club. The Shag Preservation Association’s (SPA) Competition will bring shag dancers from across the country to compete in the Commons for points, prizes, and plaques. A DJ, dance floor, and serious shaggers will be out on the Commons all day. This is sure to be a day full of summertime fun for the whole family.

North Hills Kids returning for its second year in 2011. Parents and children of all ages enjoyed foam blocks and a colorful fence that surrounded the Commons each day during Open Play and Creative Exercise. In addition to being able to play, there are several complimentary programs that will occur throughout the season. These include the Traveling Teacher Show, “See Spot Read”, encouraging children to read in a comfortable setting with the Canine Good Citizen Dogs, activities with WRAL’s Go Ask Mom, and many more!

This growers only market has thrived in its first three years at North Hills, and will be returning for a promising fourth season. The Midtown Farmers’ Market has become a community favorite, allowing local residents to support North Carolina Farmers. Carolina Hurricanes at Raleigh on Ice Rink, 12/11 and 12/12

This Saturday 12/11 and Sunday 12/12, join Raleigh on Ice as they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes, Stormy, and the Storm Squad at North Hills! On Saturday from 2-4pm, there will be a community hockey clinic where skaters can learn hockey skills and techniques from the Hurricanes amateur hockey staff. On Sunday from 1-3pm, come Skate with Stormy, meet the Storm Squad, and win free Hurricane giveaways! A portion of the proceeds of Raleigh on Ice will benefit the Raleigh Rescue Mission and help families in need this Christmas season. The Rink is open Monday – Saturday from 1-8pm, and on Sundays from 1-6pm.

Bring your wishes and your coins to the Salvation Army Wishing Well at North Hills. From now through New Year’s Day, all coins collected in the fountain by JC Penney and McAlister’s Deli will be donated to the Salvation Army, a great way to give back to the community during this season of giving.
