Yes, beer is sold at the Beach Music Series.
Yes, Ashley, after 8pm, minors should have a parent or adult chaperone.
Does it get really packed here? We want to come tonight (for the first time), but are worried it will be too crowded. We would also want to bring our dog with us.
That concrete was awful hard tonight. Don’t be a-scared to put the floor down on account of possible rain. You might just save someone from falling. My shoes stick and drag on that concrete.
On a positive note. We dancers do appreciate that you try. Of course we want more. But thanks for the new floor. It is safer that the old one.
What’s the policy on coolers? OK to bring them with beer?
When the Midtown Beach Music Series began a couple years ago, it was an enjoyable venue for adults to come out and dance to their favorite band. In recent weeks, it has become a haven where large throngs of teenagers come out to “see-and-be-seen” by their friends. I’m not alone with voicing my sentiment that something needs to be done about this. In addition, my friends and I won’t be coming back unless North Hills comes up with a solution to this problem. Thank you.
Though we prefer not to have any coolers in the space, we do understand that they are sometimes necessary for children’s drinks or storing food through the evening. Our Public Safety team checks bags and coolers as they come in to confirm that they are alcohol free. See you Thursday!
Wow, I may actually consider coming. Have been several times in previous years, but got really tired of the crowds of rude and obnoxious teenagers and underage drinking. Thank you North Hills for considering the adults.
Uhhhhh I don’t like that rule because it ruins the whole point of beach music for us “kids”. But I understand the point of the rule and it’s good and all but at 8? it should be 8:30 or 9
I don’t mean to sound rude… ^
Is it still on for tonight?
Is Beach Music today cancelled?
“For the love of……….animals”, LEAVE your dogs at home. If North Hills isn’t over-run with teenagers, now we have to side-step dogs on leashes. Seriously, people!
On behalf of us “teenagers,” I don’t go to “see-and-be-seen.” I go because I enjoy shagging to beach music and actually am dancing the whole time. And I would imagine many of the parents are sitting in lawn chairs getting drunk, and then complaining about masses of teenagers. Well, we don’t effect the way your ears work at all. You can still hear the band fine, and can see perfectly fine.
To all the adults that complain about the ‘teenager problem’ that regularly attend the midtown music concert series, adolescents make up more than half the attendies each week and undoubtably bring profits to numerous buisnesses in the North Hills area. This week when the ‘teenagers’ were forced to leave, the ‘energy’ of the event drained away in several arears including the dancefloor.
Parent On Site Policy. Beach music is not only a place for adults, it is for teens as well. Personally, my parents do not want to come “babysit” their soon to be 17 year old on their thursday nights. If this curfew was rather 9:00 things would be looked at from a whole new perspective. This is a place where teens can come where drugs and alcohol are not pressured or presented, a safe place where we can just let loose and have some fun shagging. If we can drive ourselves there, we should be allowed to stay past 8:00. Be considerate
What is the new rule? I heard a rumor, but can’t find it stated anywhere.
My husband and I went to last weeks Beach concert and there were more teenagers there than I could count. It made the event not enjoyable. The teens were smoking, drinking and talking loudly. The teens were hanging out around the escalators which in itself is dangerous. The poor security were having trouble keeping them away. And most of the teens don’t even care for beach music, just want to socialize.I enjoy the concerts, but not if its overrun by teenagers who don’t have anything to do during their summer break.Maybe the North Hills powers to be should put their thinking caps on and see what kind of solution can be found for next year.
Does anyone know the website for the photos being taken there? The nice girl gave us a card but i seem to have thrown it away. If anyone could help that would be great.
Thanks,
Reading this comment thread reminds me of the credo “no good deed goes unpunished.”
Since my son plays in a non-beach music band, you won’t be seeing them at this event and you know what? That’s cool. People like Beach Music and IT IS GREAT that it is packed.
I don’t honestly know many teens into Beach Music or that know they are, but California is bringing us some Low-Fi groups that draw their influence from the odd place of Beach Music and Punk. Click on the website link to hear a teen band playing the Modern version of Beach Music – just don’t tell them.
I think they call it Surf Music.
To me it’s great when Teens discover that music their parents and now, grandparents listened to is worth going out to hear.
Thank you North Hills for doing this. It’s a great idea and it’s great that crowds are a “problem.” Who wants to play for crickets?
The whole new rule of not allowing teenagers to stay and enforcing strict procedures on them is in some ways great for the parents, but on a marketing point of view, you guys will be losing a HUGE amount of money, seeing how a majority of the profit is from the teenagers in Chikfila, Five Guys, the Cinema, Starbucks blowing their rich money. But whatever floats your boat !
I agree everyone does not like dogs sniffing on them, leave your pet homes or on a shorter leash when walking thru North Hills
Because of the extreme heat, will the concert me canceled (tomorrow) 7-21-11?
Stanley, the concert is still on! See you soon.
Yes, Jeff. Here’s the website: http://www.triangle.com/galleries/about_town/
Jaye, the rules for the Parents On Site Policy can be found here: http://www.northhillsraleigh.com/news/5547/
Hey, Im a college student and Im attending this festival as part of a class. Do you have any flyers or anything that I can show as proof for being there tonight?
Well I can say I was impressed with the kids there. I did not observe bad language, Underage drinking, just teens dancing on the dance floor. Impressed with the moves. Yes there was times where other teens stood around the ones that were dancing and then took over the dance floor. Im from another county. These kids were well behaved than the ones from my county. I was so glad to see a place where everyone can get along. Now I guess it has all changed. Yes there is a lot drinking never saw a fight which in the county I’m from there would have been three in those hours. Please try to share the floor or maybe have a teen floor and a adult floor.Just wanted to share my thoughts on this.
I agree with Unspoken-Truth that the new policy is ‘bogus’ and the turn out has dropped and keep dropping if this policy is not removed soon!
I’m still confused on the cooler rules? I know you can’t bring in alcohol but what about bottled water?
You guys should really post your policies somewhere on the website. And if you do have it posted somewhere already, its not user friendly because I couldn’t find it.
Thanks!
Hi, Ashley, sorry for the late reply. We don’t any specific flyers for that particular concert, but we do have a schedule list that you can pick up, if you still need it.
Donna, you can bring a cooler, but it cannot have alcohol in it. Hope this helps.
I had so much fun today with my bestie….we was out there have fun!!! We went to the Q Shack and had a great lunch…than decide to go out there and dance….we will come back again till it ends!!!!
[...] So mark your calendars; you don’t want to miss this one! For more information check out Midtown Lowdown. [...]
Is it possible to see archived photos from the beach music series?
For starters, I’m one of those teenagers that goes to beach music. I haven’t been there since y’all had the new rule about the parents and 8 because it has ruined the fun mood there used to be among us high schoolers. I go to beach music because it’s where I know my friends are and we can go shagging and have a good time. I was wondering that for these last 2 ‘festivals’ if the parent rule still applies.
Was the last beach music concert last Thursday (08/18) or this coming Thursday (08/25) I heard it was the last one but the schedule i have says the Embers are playing at the last one this week.
You need to have the BigTime Party Band next season!! Fabulous 9 piece beach music/variety band out of Chapel Hill/Pittsboro area. Nominee for “Best New Artst Of The Year 2009″ by the Carolina Beach Music Academy.
The Parents On Site Policy is in effect every day of the year. So, yes, the curfew still applies during the concerts.
Glad you had a great time!
